This Week at Hope – Listening Morning by Morning
Dear Brothers and Sisters, Prayer will be held at the Burke home.
Remember the Movie Night on Friday evening at the church at 7:00 on June 19. We will be watching the new documentary on D. Martin Lloyd Jones – “Logic on Fire.” Please bring a dessert for intermission.
Our Savior was always before His Father, listening with an open ear without rebellion or any kind of resistance. While this has never happened even one day of our lives, Our Lord Jesus Christ’s open ear and obedient heart is our salvation. He did what we needed to do. He is our righteousness. Our scripture study this week is on Isaiah 50 which brings us to the second “Servant Song” where the servant Himself – the Lord Jesus Christ – explains His own obedience to the Father, and the effect of it. He was not rebellious. He listened intently to His Father morning by morning. The chapter can be divided into five sections.
1. The Servant tells of the sad situation in Judah, v1-3
They sinned, and fell into trouble, accused God of abandoning them, but the problem was that their sins have separated them from Him – there is no one who listens.
2. The Servant’s listening ear, v4-5
The servant listened perfectly so He could speak perfectly to those who need comfort.
3. The Servant’s suffering, v6-7
He listens even when suffering in innocence, taking our shame and the spitting we deserved.
4. The Servant’s vindication, v8-9
God vindicates Him not bringing any charges, as He does for those who believe.
5. The Servants call to come, v10-11
The Servant cries out that If you want to walk in your own light and be warmed by your own ways you will be tormented.
How much better to listen with an open ear without rebellion…
The Songs we will be singing on Sunday are here:
Crown Him with Many Crowns
Crown Him with many crowns
The Lamb upon His throne
Hark! how the heav’nly anthem drowns
All music but its own!
Awake, my soul, and sing
Of Him who died for thee
And hail Him as thy matchless King
Thro’ all eternity
Crown Him the Lord of Love!
Behold His hands and side –
Rich wounds, yet visible above
In beauty glorified
All hail, Redeemer, hail!
For Thou Hast died for me
Thy praise and glory shall not fail
Thro’out eternity
Crown Him the Lord of life!
Who triumphed o’er the grave
Who rose victorious in the strife
For those He came to save
His glories now we sing
Who died and rose on high
Who died eternal life to bring
And lives that death may die
Crown Him the Lord of Heav’n!
One with the Father known
One with the Spirit thro’ Him giv’n
From yonder glorious throne
To Thee be endless praise
For Thou for us hast died
Be Thou, O Lord, thro’ endless days
Adored and magnified
Amen
Man of Sorrows
Man of Sorrows! what a name
For the Son of God, who came
Ruined sinners to reclaim:
Hallelujah! what a Saviour!
Bearing shame and scoffing rude,
In my place condemned He stood,
Sealed my pardon with His blood:
Hallelujah! what a Saviour!
Guilty, vile, and helpless, we;
Spotless Lamb of God was He;
Full atonement! can it be?
Hallelujah! what a Saviour!
Lifted up was He to die,
“It is finished!” was His cry:
Now in heav’n exalted high:
Hallelujah! what a Saviour!
When He comes, our glorious King,
All His ransomed home to bring,
Then anew this song we’ll sing:
Hallelujah! what a Saviour!
Hail, Thou Once Despised Jesus
(tune Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus)
Hail, thou once despised Jesus,
Hail, thou Galilean King!
Thou didst suffer to release us:
Thou didst free salvation bring.
Hail, thou agonizing Saviour,
Bearer of our sin and shame!
By Thy merits we find favor;
Life is given through Thy name.
Paschal Lamb, by God appointed,
All our sins were on Thee laid;
By almighty love anointed,
Thou hast full atonement made:
All Thy people are forgiven
Through the virtue of Thy blood;
Opened is the gate of heaven,
Peace is made ‘twixt man and God.
Jesus, hail! enthroned in glory,
There for ever to abide;
All the heav’nly hosts adore Thee,
Seated at Thy Father’s side:
There for sinners Thou art pleading;
There Thou dost our place prepare;
Ever for us interceding,
Till in glory we appear.
Worship, honor, power, and blessing
Thou art worthy to receive:
Loudest praises without ceasing,
Meet it is for us to give.
Help, ye bright angelic spirits,
Bring your sweetest, noblest lays;
Help to sing our Saviour’s merits,
Help to chant Immanuel’s praise.
Come, All Ye Pining
Lord we adore thy boundless grace.
The heights and depths unknown,
Of pardon, life, and joy, and peace,
In thy beloved Son.
Come, all ye pining, hungry poor,
The Savior’s bounty taste;
Behold a never-failing store
For ev’ry willing guest.
O wondrous gifts of love divine,
Dear Source of ev’ry good;
Jesus, in thee what glories shine!
How rich thy flowing blood!
Come, all ye pining, hungry poor,
The Savior’s bounty taste;
Behold a never-failing store
For ev’ry willing guest.
Here shall your num’rous wants receive
A free, a full supply;
He has unmeasured bliss to give,
And joys that never die.
Come, all ye pining, hungry poor,
The Savior’s bounty taste;
Behold a never-failing store
For ev’ry willing guest.
How Deep the Father’s Love For Us
How deep the Father’s love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure
How great the pain of searing loss
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory
Behold the man upon a cross
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished
I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no pow’r, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection
Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom
