This Wek at Hope – No Love for One Another
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
In Isaiah 58:1-7, and throughout the entire chapter, the prophet displays the various manifestations of lack of love among the the people of God. At bottom, it is hypocrisy. Isaiah describes a religious people who are passionate about their religious persuasions and duties, yet the reason they are doing them is for love of self. They have a form of religion, but it is form without love or power. Instead of fasting for the benefit of others (relief from burdens; Removal of oppression” and “To let the oppressed go free, And that you break every yoke.”), they fast in order to get an upper hand, rather than to express love toward their brethren.
