This Week at Hope – Love Is Patient…
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
On Sunday, the subject of our study will be, 1 Cor. 13:4-5, where the apostle Paul continues to define love. This is all part of our studies in 1 John and the doctrine of regeneration that John is teaching. We are now working our way through 1 Cor 13 because it provides further definition for John’s instruction on love and hate. As you study this text there are several questions to ask that will help in interpreting and applying it: How is this an attribute of God? How did Christ or His disciples or other personalities in scripture demonstrate this? How does this point to the power of the gospel? How do parents foster this in their families? How do church members foster this in the church? How do Christian workers demonstrate this in the workplace?
Also we will have a Sunday afternoon teaching at 1:30-2:00, “Stir up the gift that is within you.” Directly after the teaching time, we will all need to pitch in to clean up and then depart by 2:25 to get to the baptism at 2:45.
Baptism on Sunday at 2:45…. David Harris will be baptized at the Brown’s lake at 2:00 on Sunday.
Prayer this week will be held at the Brown’s Barn.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 11 at the Church building, teaming up with Sovereign Redeemer for a Child Training Conference. We will be delivering four messages that we pray will be helpful for those with little ones as well as young adults. We will be serving lunch.
Memorial Day: Many thanks for all of you who worked on Memorial Day. The youth at our church have a remarkable collective capability for blessing a community… thank you so taking responsibility to make it a beautiful day all around.
The Songs we will be singing have their theme in the love of God,
- We Gather Together
- And Can It Be
- Take My Life and Let It Be
- The Love of God
- Behold the Lamb
We Gather Together
We gather together
To ask the Lord’s blessing;
He chastens and hastens
His will to make known.
The wicked oppressing
Now cease from distressing.
Sing praises to His Name;
He forgets not His own.
Beside us to guide us,
Our God with us joining,
Ordaining, maintaining
His kingdom divine;
So from the beginning
The fight we were winning;
Thou, Lord, were at our side,
All glory be Thine!
We all do extol Thee,
Thou Leader triumphant,
And pray that Thou still
Our Defender will be.
Let Thy congregation
Escape tribulation;
Thy Name be ever praised!
O Lord, make us free!
And Can It Be
And can it be that I should gain
An int’rest in the Savior’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain;
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me.
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me.
He left His Father’s throne above,
So free, so infinite His grace,
Humbled Himself because of love
And bled for all His chosen race.
‘Tis mercy all, immense and free
For, O my God, it found out me.
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me.
Long my imprisoned spirit lay,
Fast bound in sin and nature’s night;
Thine eye diffused a quick’ning ray –
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light.
My chains fell off; my heart was free.
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me.
No condemnation now I dread
Jesus, and all in Him, is mine;
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness divine
Bold I approach th’eternal throne
And claim the crown, thro’ Christ my own.
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me.
Take My Life and Let It Be
Take my life and let it be
Consecrated Lord to Thee
Take my moments and my days
Let them flow in ceaseless praise
Let them flow in ceaseless praise
Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee
Swift and beautiful for Thee
Take my voice and let me sing
Always, only, for my King
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee
Filled with messages from Thee
Take my silver and my gold
Not a mite would I withhold
Take my intellect and use
Every power as Thou shalt choose
Every power as Thou shalt choose
Take my love, my Lord I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store
Take my self and I will be
Ever only all for Thee
Ever only all for Thee
Take my will and make it Thine
It shall be no longer mine
Take my heart it is Thine own
It shall be Thy royal throne
It shall be Thy royal throne
The Love of God
The love of God is Greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell
It goes beyond the highest star
And reaches to the lowest hell
The guilty pair, bowed down with care
God gave His Son to win
His erring child He reconciled
And pardoned from his sin
O love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure –
The saints’ and angels’ song!
When years of time shall pass away
And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall
When men who here refuse to pray
On rocks and hills and mountains call
God’s love so sure shall still endure
All measureless and strong
Redeeming grace to Adam’s race –
The saints’ and angels’ song
Could we with ink the ocean fill
And were the skies of parchment made
Were every stalk on earth a quill
And every man a scribe by trade
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry
Nor could the scroll contain the whole
Tho’ stretched from sky to sky
Behold the Lamb
Behold the Lamb who bears our sins away
Slain for us and we remember
The promise made that all who come in faith
Find forgiveness at the cross
So we share in this bread of life
And we drink of His sacrifice
As a sign of our bonds of peace
Around the table of the King
The body of our Saviour Jesus Christ
Torn for you eat and remember
The wounds that heal the death that brings us life
Paid the price to make us one
So we share in this bread of life
And we drink of His sacrifice
As a sign of our bonds of love
Around the table of the King
The blood that cleanses ev’ry stain of sin
Shed for you drink and remember
He drained death’s cup that we may enter in
To receive the life of God
So we share in this bread of life
And we drink of His sacrifice
As a sign of our bonds of grace
Around the table of the King
And so with thankfulness and faith we rise
To respond and to remember
Our call to follow in the steps of Christ
As His body here on earth
As we share in His suffering
We proclaim Christ will come again!
And we’ll join in the feast of Heaven
Around the table of the King
We gather together
