This Week at Hope – We Have this Confidence
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Don’t forget to pray for the upcoming Father Son Retreat. The theme is, “Men Who Feared Their God.” We will speak of Job, Abraham, Elijah, Joseph and others… as well as a fishing derby on Friday morning with a fish fry at noon.
Ten Year Anniversary, October 8 from 11:00-4:00. We will be eating lunch together and then having a time of rejoicing and giving thanks where people can share what good things the Lord has done.
Prayer on Wed night will be held at the Noah’s… Ark
Announcement: Men’s Meeting For Members – Oct 12. We will be gathering before prayer on Wed night Oct 12, for the elders to share some of the things that they re thinking and praying about and to discuss whatever might be on mens minds. We will be meeting at 5:30 and will also be bringing in Pizza or something.
In 1 John 5:14-17, John affirms again that the mark of a Christian is certainty. Throughout his letter, John has been itemizing irrefutable things that the Christian can count on. John has just spoken of one category of confidence in 5:13- assurance in salvation. Now He turns to assurance in prayer. John is concerned that we have confidence in prayer. Do you have confidence in prayer? In order to illustrate, John gives the example – when a brother falls into sin. What should the church do? The church should pray with confidence. In this way we maintain our confidence in God, not in the arm of the flesh. This is just another way that we, “love one another for love is of God and everyone who loves is born of God.”
The songs we will be singing are…
- Rejoice, the Lord Is King
- Arise, My Soul, Arise
- Sweet Hour of Prayer
- Before the Throne of God
- Grace Greater Than Our Sin
Rejoice, the Lord Is King
Rejoice, the Lord is King
Your Lord and King adore!
Rejoice, give thanks and sing and triumph evermore.
Lift up your heart; lift up your voice!
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!
Jesus, the Savior, reigns
The God of truth and love;
When He had purged our stains, He took His seat above.
Lift up your heart; lift up your voice!
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!
His kingdom cannot fail;
He rules o’er earth and heav’n.
The keys of death and hell are to our Jesus giv’n.
Lift up your heart; lift up your voice!
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!
He sits at God’s right hand,
The Church’s great High Priest,
And all his enemies are placed beneath His feet.
Lift up your heart; lift up your voice!
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!
Rejoice in glorious hope!
Our Lord, the Judge, shall come
And take His servants up to their eternal home.
Lift up your heart; lift up your voice!
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!
Arise, My Soul, Arise
Arise, my soul, arise,
Shake off thy guilty fears:
The bleeding Sacrifice
In my behalf appears:
Before the Throne my Surety stands,
Before the Throne my Surety stands,
My name is written on His hands.
He ever lives above,
For me to intercede,
His all-redeeming love,
His precious blood to plead;
His blood atoned for ev’ry race,
His blood atoned for ev’ry race,
And sprinkles now the throne of grace.
Five bleeding wounds He bears,
Received on Calvary;
They pour effectual prayers,
They strongly plead for me;
Forgive him, O forgive, they cry,
Forgive him, O forgive, they cry,
Nor let that ransomed sinner die!
My God is reconciled;
His pard’ning voice I hear;
He owns me for His child,
I can no longer fear;
With confidence I now draw nigh,
With confidence I now draw nigh,
And “Father, Abba, Father!” cry.
Sweet Hour of Prayer
Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer,
That calls me from a world of care,
And bids me at my Father’s throne,
Make all my wants and wishes known!
In seasons of distress and grief,
My soul has often found relief,
And oft escaped the tempter’s snare,
By thy return, sweet hour of prayer.
Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer,
The joys I feel, the bliss I share
Of those whose anxious spirits burn
With strong desires for Thy return!
With such I hasten to the place
Where God, my Saviour, shows His face,
And gladly take my station there,
And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer.
Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer,
Thy wings shall my petition bear
To Him, whose truth and faithfulness
Engage the waiting soul to bless:
And since He bids me seek His face,
Believe His Word, and trust His grace,
I’ll cast on Him my ev’ry care,
And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer.
Before the Throne of God
Before the throne of God above
I have a strong and perfect plea
A great High Priest whose name is Love
Who ever lives and pleads for me
My name is graven on His hands
My name is written on His heart
I know that while in heav’n He stands
No tongue can bid me thence depart
No tongue can bid me thence depart
When Satan tempts me to despair
And tells me of the guilt within
Upward I look and see Him there
Who made an end of all my sin
Because the sinless Savior died
My sinful soul is counted free
For God the just is satisfied
To look on Him and pardon me
To look on Him and pardon me
Behold Him there, the risen Lamb
My perfect spotless righteousness
The great unchangeable I Am
The King of glory and of grace
One with Himself I cannot die
My soul is purchased by His blood
My life is hid with Christ on high
With Christ my Savior and my God
With Christ my Savior and my God
Grace Greater Than Our Sin
Marvelous grace of our loving Lord
Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt
Yonder on Calvary’s mount outpoured
There where the blood of the Lamb was spilt
Grace, grace, God’s grace
Grace that will pardon and cleanse within!
Grace, grace, God’s grace
Grace that is greater than all our sin!
Sin and despair, like the sea waves cold
Threaten the soul with infinite loss
Grace that is greater, yes, grace untold
Points to the refuge, the mighty cross
Dark is the stain that we cannot hide
What can avail to wash it away?
Look! there is flowing a crimson tide
Whiter than snow you may be today
Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace
Freely bestowed on all who believe!
You that are longing to see His face
Will you this moment His grace receive?
