This Week at Hope – Evidencing Our Faith through Works
Dear ones, this Sunday we plan on spending our morning in James 2:14-26. In this passage James seeks to draw our attention once again to a reality check of the genuineness of our faith. He seeks to aid us in that check by identifying three different ways that faith is defined – and only one of those ways is good and righteous. There is a faith that is defined by right words (2:14-17); there is a faith that is defined by right doctrine (2:18-20); and then there is a faith that is defined by righteous works (2:21-25). How do you seek to define your faith? to defend the genuineness of your faith? May God grant us grace to look for true and solid evidence of the work of genuine faith in our lives.

To God be the glory – great things He hath done!
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin
And opened the life-gate that we may go in
Let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father thro’ Jesus, the Son
And give Him the glory – great things He hath done
To every believer, the promise of God
The vilest offender who truly believes
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives
And great our rejoicing thro’ Jesus, the Son
But purer and higher and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see
Like a river glorious is God’s perfect peace,
Over all victorious in its bright increase;
Perfect, yet it floweth fuller ev’ry day,
Perfect, yet it groweth deeper all the way.
Stayed upon Jehovah, hearts are fully blest,
Finding, as He promised,
Perfect peace and rest.
Hidden in the hollow of His blessed hand,
Never foe can follow, never traitor stand;
Not a surge of worry, not a shade of care,
Not a blast of hurry touch the spirit there.
Ev’ry joy or trial falleth from above,
Traced upon our dial by the Sun of Love.
We may trust Him fully all for us to do;
They who trust Him wholly find Him wholly true.
He Will Hold Me Fast
When I fear my faith will fail,
Christ will hold me fast;
When the tempter would prevail,
He will hold me fast.
I could never keep my hold
Through life’s fearful path;
For my love is often cold;
He must hold me fast.
He will hold me fast,
He will hold me fast;
For my Savior loves me so,
He will hold me fast.
Those He saves are His delight,
Christ will hold me fast;
Precious in His holy sight,
He will hold me fast.
He’ll not let my soul be lost;
His promises shall last;
Bought by Him at such a cost,
He will hold me fast.
For my life He bled and died,
Christ will hold me fast;
Justice has been satisfied;
He will hold me fast.
Raised with Him to endless life,
He will hold me fast
‘Till our faith is turned to sight,
When He comes at last!
Speak, O Lord
Speak, O Lord, as we come to You
To receive the food of Your Holy Word.
Take Your truth, plant it deep in us;
Shape and fashion us in Your likeness,
That the light of Christ might be seen today
In our acts of love and our deeds of faith.
Speak, O Lord, and fulfill in us
All Your purposes for Your glory.
Teach us, Lord, full obedience,
Holy reverence, true humility;
Test our thoughts and our attitudes
In the radiance of Your purity.
Cause our faith to rise; cause our eyes to see
Your majestic love and authority.
Words of pow’r that can never fail –
Let their truth prevail over unbelief.
Speak, O Lord, and renew our minds;
Help us grasp the heights of Your plans for us –
Truths unchanged from the dawn of time
That will echo down through eternity.
And by grace we’ll stand on Your promises,
And by faith we’ll walk as You walk with us.
Speak, O Lord, till Your church is built
We will trust God’s Word alone,
Where His perfect will is known;
Our traditions shift like sand
While His Truth forever stands.
Clothed in merit not our own;
All we claim is Jesus Christ
And His finished sacrifice.
Through the church He redeemed and made His own.
He has freed us, He will keep us till we’re safely home
Glory be, glory be to God alone!
Undeserved, yet freely shown;
No accomplishment on earth
Can achieve the second birth.
The unyielding Cornerstone;
Nations rage and devils roar,
Still he reigns forevermore!
Through the church He redeemed and made His own.
He has freed us, He will keep us till we’re safely home
Glory be, glory be to God alone!
