This Week at Hope – Why is the House of God Forsaken?
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Women’s Mentoring this week on Wednesday at the Brown’s barn from 10-12 noon. We will be continuing in the book “Letters to Pastors’ Wives” by Catherine Stewart. Childcare will be provided for preschool children.
Prayer will be held at the Burkes
As the years pass in our lives as Christians, there may be seasons when we slip back. The Godly things we embraced may be diminished and the things we abandoned may creep back, through little compromises over time. This problem is what we will encounter in the final chapter of Nehemiah focusing on 13:1-14. Nehemiah returns to Jerusalem after being in Babylon for 12 years. When he returns, he finds that the people have slipped back into practices they once held dear. There are several areas in which they have slipped. The first area addressed in these verses is the worship of God and the provision for those responsible for the worship of God in the temple. The temple of God had been forsaken and the financial support for the workers had been compromised.
Our songs for Sunday:
- Revive Us Again
- My Jesus, I Love Thee
- Holy, Holy, Holy!
- O Great God
- Jesus! what a Friend for Sinners!
Revive Us Again
We praise Thee, O God!
For the Son of Thy love,
For Jesus Who died,
And is now gone above.
Hallelujah! Thine the glory.
Hallelujah! Amen.
Hallelujah! Thine the glory.
Revive us again.
We praise Thee, O God!
For Thy Spirit of light,
Who hath shown us our Savior,
And scattered our night.
All glory and praise
To the Lamb that was slain,
Who hath borne all our sins,
And hath cleansed every stain.
Revive us again;
Fill our hearts with Thy love;
May our souls be rekindled
With fire from above.
My Jesus, I Love Thee
My Jesus, I love Thee
I know Thou art mine
For Thee all the follies of sin I resign
My gracious Redeemer
My Savior art Thou
If ever I loved Thee
My Jesus, ‘tis now
I love Thee because
Thou hast first loved me
And purchased my pardon
On Calvary’s tree
I love Thee for wearing
The thorns on Thy brow
If ever I loved Thee
My Jesus, ‘tis now
In mansions of glory
And endless delight
I’ll ever adore Thee
In Heaven so bright
I’ll sing with the glittering
Crown on my brow
“If ever I loved Thee
My Jesus, ‘tis now”
Holy, Holy, Holy!
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee
Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!
Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore Thee
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea
Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee
Which wert, and art, and evermore shalt be
Holy, holy, holy! Tho’ the darkness hide Thee
Tho’ the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see
Only Thou art holy – there is none beside Thee
Perfect in pow’r, in love, in purity
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy name in earth, and sky, and sea
Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity
O Great God
O great God of highest heaven
Occupy my lowly heart
Own it all and reign supreme
Conquer every rebel power
Let no vice or sin remain
That resists Your holy war
You have loved and purchased me
Make me Yours forevermore
I was blinded by my sin
Had no ears to hear Your voice
Did not know Your love within
Had no taste for heaven’s joys
Then Your Spirit gave me life
Opened up Your Word to me
Through the gospel of Your Son
Gave me endless hope and peace
Help me now to live a life
That’s dependent on Your grace
Keep my heart and guard my soul
From the evils that I face
You are worthy to be praised
With my every thought and deed
O great God of highest heaven
Glorify Your Name through me
Jesus! what a Friend for Sinners!
Jesus! what a Friend for sinners!
Jesus! Lover of my soul;
Friends may fail me, foes assail me,
He, my Saviour, makes me whole.
Hallelujah! what a Saviour!
Hallelujah, what a Friend!
Saving, helping, keeping, loving,
He is with me to the end.
Jesus! what a strength in weakness!
Let me hide myself in Him;
Tempted, tried, and sometimes failing,
He, my strength, my vict’ry wins.
Jesus! what a help in sorrow!
While the billows o’er me roll,
Even when my heart is breaking,
He, my comfort, helps my soul.
Jesus! what a guide and keeper!
While the tempest still is high,
Storms about me, night o’ertakes me,
He, my pilot, hears my cry.
Jesus! I do now receive Him,
More than all in Him I find,
He hath granted me forgiveness,
I am His, and He is mine.
We praise Thee, O God!
For the Son of Thy love,
For Jesus Who died,
And is now gone above.
Hallelujah! Thine the glory.
