This Week at Hope – “Life in His Name”
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
This week, prayer will be held at the Burke home.
Who is the historical Jesus? What did He do? What was His message? Where did He travel? Who is John? Why did John write the gospel? On Sunday, we will introduce the Gospel of John. During that message, I will explain the themes and contours of this glorious testimony of the glory of Jesus Christ. Notice that the outline of John hangs on seven signs, or miracles… each of them explains one aspect of the glory of our Lord Jesus. Notice also that there are seven “I Am” statements in the gospel where Jesus Himself declares who He is. But, it is important to know exactly why God gave us the gospel of John. It is stated at the very closing lines of the Gospel,
“And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book;
31but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.“ John 20:30-31
