This Week at Hope – “Who Do You Think You Are?!”
Brothers and sisters,
We have all thought it. Maybe we have even said it. Either way, we have all had that reaction before: “Just who do you think you are?!” Someone in your life took it upon themselves to “straighten you out!”, or to “get a leg up on you”, or give you “a piece of my mind”. Or they took it upon themselves to go behind you and to assassinate your character. Sound familiar?
But how often do we take into consideration the times we seek to straighten someone out; to get a leg up on them; to give them a piece of our mind? the times we say things that are totally unnecessary and damaging? At such times, we should ask ourselves that question: “Just who do I think I am?!”
It was happening in the church that James was writing to. Pride had given rise to an attitude of superiority. And so James steps in and asks: “Who do you think you are?!”
We will aim to look together at just two verses this Sunday (4:11-12) and to come away with a more accurate view of ourselves, of the law, and of our God – the Giver of that law.
Prayer will be held at the Noah’s tomorrow night.
Pray for Scott and his parents as they travel to California for the memorial service this weekend (leaving tomorrow).
