This Week at Hope – What we need in 2018 – Behold His Glory
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
As we are contemplating a new year and the changes we are hoping and planning for, John 1:14-18 provides wonderful guidance. Grace! Truth! Glory! Fullness! These are the soul’s treasures. All of them are presented in John 1:14-18. This is what we need in 2018. They all come from one source: the Word of the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ as revealed in His inerrant and sufficient Word. The apostle John is now an old man looking back remembering “the Word,’ our Lord Jesus Christ. John is the last apostle alive for all the others have been martyred. In this section, John is explaining some of the many facets of the glory of Jesus. He opens with the words, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (v14).The apostle Paul, speaking to the Corinthian church, spoke of the value of knowing Jesus Christ, “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.” This is the gift of the grace of Jesus Christ upon the believer. Grace heaped upon grace! His fulness received! This is what we need in 2018.
