This Week at Hope – You Must Be Born Again
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
As we enter into John chapter 3 we will be taking “diligent heed to the mystery of the new birth.” Our scripture focus this week is John 3:1-13, where Jesus is met by Nicodemus under the cover of night. Jesus tells him of the most important thing in all of life – “you must be born again.” These are words everyone needs to hear – and heed. Benjamin Franklin had the privilege of hearing the great evangelist George Whitfield preach in Philadelphia and was confronted with these same words of Jesus in a letter. One day, Franklin received what was the most important letter he ever received. It was from Whitfield, “I find that you grow more and more famous in the learned world… As you have made such progress in investigating the mysteries of electricity, I now humbly urge you to give diligent heed to the mystery of the new birth. It is a most important and interesting study and, when mastered, will richly repay you for your pains.”
On Sunday afternoon at 1:30, we plan to continue our messages on church membership, “ Joined and Knit Together,” on the subject – A Missionary Church.
As we consider what is at the heart of the Great Commission – The new birth – we would like to recommend that we all listen to this biography of John G Paton, delivered in an audio message by John Piper, You Will Be Eaten By Cannibals
Prayer will be held at the Noah’s house.
The songs we will be singing on Sunday are:
O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing
There Is a Fountain
Rock of Ages
How Deep the Father’s Love for Us
O Church Arise
