This Week at Hope – Our God: Our Help and Our Hope
Dear brothers and sisters,
If Christ tarries, this coming Sunday will be the last Sunday of 2018. Once again we will say goodbye to another calendar year. As we step into another year, let us do so with the perspective that Moses gives us in his prayer recorded for us in Psalm 90. That will be our text this Sunday morning as we will pause to consider:
A Declaration of God’s Eternality
A Description of Man’s Frailty
A Desire for Our Remaining Days
As we have learned from our study of Ecclesiastes, we are part of the cycles that permeate God’s creation. We must fight against the desire for permanence in a world that God has subjected to change. True wisdom teaches us that we were created for something greater; that pursuit of earthly things will result in two fistfuls of wind; and that we must face the reality of our mortality. In many ways, Psalm 90 teaches us how we can approach this life in a way that does not result in a sad declaration that ‘all is vanity’. This text teaches us who God is, who we are, and where true satisfaction and gladness can be found. May God grant us grace to begin this new year on the right ‘spiritual’ foot.
Prayer tonight will be at the Noah’s home.
Do not forget our church’s Year’sears Eve gathering Monday night (12/31 at 6:00 pm). We are urging everyone to be there for this very important event. It is not simply a time of fellowship, but also a time of declaring God’s goodness among the congregation as well as casting a vision for our church, our homes, and the proclamation of the gospel in 2019.
Sunday afternoon Scott will continue our series on ‘The Being and Attributes of God’ with a fresh look at The Spirituality of God.
Several have asked about the ‘savings’ jars for Hold the Rope. If you did not get one and would like to have one, please see Alan Hillman this Sunday after the service.
The songs for Sunday are as follows:
- O God, Our Help in Ages Past
- Rock of Ages
- Wondrous King, All Glorious
- When I Survey the Wondrous Cross
- Another Year is Dawning
