This Week at Hope – Reverencing the Name of the Lord
Dear ones,
This Sunday we plan to take up the third commandment, found in Exodus 20:7 – You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain. We will continue our pattern of discovering what is forbidden in the commandment and what is required. It is all too easy to point at those who use God’s name in a cursing tirade. But what about us?
We all know very well who the Scriptures declare the Lord to be. The questions are this: does our life, day-in and day-out, echo what the Scriptures declare. We are living in a day where fear and panic have captured the hearts of the nations. As a church, we sing that the Lord is our Rock and our Redeemer. Do those declarations of who the Lord shapes the way we approach the virus; the way we view the news that is constantly churning; the way we shop in the store; the way we face the current status of our employment; the way we respond to circumstances that happen outside of our control (the person next to us coughs our direction)? The Lord is our Rock – let us live like it! He is our Redeemer – let us not take His name in vain! This applies to all that God has revealed Himself to be.
You should have all received earlier today a follow-up email about prayer tonight. If you are confused about where you are to be, feel free to reach out to Alan. We continue to monitor the state of things and will be providing more detailed directions for the Lord’s Day in the next few days. We covet your prayers.
