This Week at Hope – They Continued Steadfastly
Brothers and Sisters,
Tonight prayer will be held at the Brown’s Barn, 3721 Quarry Road, Wake Forest.
If you follow Jesus your life patterns change. Your use of time is forever altered. Your weekends will never be the same. This is what the 3000 new Christians experienced after Peter said, “repent and be baptized.” They repented, were baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit. But that was not the end of it. They acquired a new life with new priorities. Our scripture focus on Sunday morning will be Acts 2:42-47 where we find the pattern the apostles appointed for the early church… which continues today. This is the first of other summaries of life in the early church (Ac. 4:32-37, 5:12-16).
The songs we will be singing on Sunday are,

We Gather TogetherWe gather togetherTo ask the Lord’s blessing; He chastens and hastensHis will to make known. The wicked oppressingNow cease from distressing.Sing praises to His Name;He forgets not His own.Beside us to guide us,Our God with us joining,Ordaining, maintainingHis kingdom divine; So from the beginningThe fight we were winning;Thou, Lord, were at our side,All glory be Thine! We all do extol Thee,Thou Leader triumphant,And pray that Thou stillOur Defender will be.Let Thy congregationEscape tribulation;Thy Name be ever praised!O Lord, make us free!
The Church’s One FoundationThe Church’s one foundation Is Jesus Christ her LordShe is His new creation By water and the WordFrom heav’n He came and sought her To be His holy brideWith His own blood He bought herAnd for her life He diedElect from every nation Yet one o’er all the earthHer charter of salvation: One Lord, one faith, one birthOne holy Name she blesses, Partakes one holy foodAnd to one hope she presses With every grace enduedThough with a scornful wonderMen see her sore oppressed,By schisms rent asunder,By heresies distressed:Yet saints their watch are keeping,Their cry goes up, ‘How long?’And soon the night of weepingShall be the morn of song! The Church shall never perish! Her dear Lord to defend,To guide, sustain, and cherish,Is with her to the end:Though there be those who hate her,And false sons in her pale,Against both foe or traitorShe ever shall prevail.’Mid toil and tribulationAnd tumult of her warShe waits the consummation Of peace forevermoreTill with the vision glorious Her longing eyes are blessedAnd the great Church victorious Shall be the Church at restYet she on earth hath unionWith God the Three in One,And mystic sweet communionWith those whose rest is won,O happy ones and holy!Lord, give us grace that weLike them, the meek and lowly,On high may dwell with Thee
Reformation HymnWe will trust God’s Word alone,Where His perfect will is known; Our traditions shift like sandWhile His Truth forever stands. We will live by faith alone,Clothed in merit not our own;All we claim is Jesus ChristAnd His finished sacrifice. Glory be, glory be to God alone
Through the church He redeemed
and made His own.
He has freed us, He will keep us
till we’re safely home
Glory be, glory be to God alone! We are saved by grace alone -Undeserved, yet freely shown; No accomplishment on earthCan achieve the second birth. We will stand on Christ alone,The unyielding Cornerstone;Nations rage and devils roar,Still He reigns forevermore! Glory be, glory be to God alone
Through the church He redeemed
and made His own.
He has freed us, He will keep us
till we’re safely home
Glory be, glory be to God alone!
Speak, O LordSpeak, O Lord, as we come to YouTo receive the food of Your Holy Word.Take Your truth, plant it deep in us;Shape and fashion us in Your likeness,That the light of Christ might be seen todayIn our acts of love and our deeds of faith.Speak, O Lord, and fulfill in us All Your purposes for Your glory.Teach us, Lord, full obedience,Holy reverence, true humility;Test our thoughts and our attitudesIn the radiance of Your purity.Cause our faith to rise; cause our eyes to seeYour majestic love and authority.Words of pow’r that can never fail -Let their truth prevail over unbelief.Speak, O Lord, and renew our minds;Help us grasp the heights of Your plans for us -Truths unchanged from the dawn of timeThat will echo down through eternity. And by grace we’ll stand on Your promises,And by faith we’ll walk as You walk with us.Speak, O Lord, till Your church is builtAnd the earth is filled with Your glory.
How Sweet and Awful Is the PlaceHow sweet and awful is the placeWith Christ within the doors,While everlasting love displaysThe choicest of her stores! While all our hearts and all our songsJoin to admire the feast,Each of us cry, with thankful tongues,”Lord, why was I a guest?””Why was I made to hear Thy voice,And enter while there’s room,When thousands make a wretched choice,And rather starve than come?”‘Twas the same love that spread the feastThat sweetly drew us in;Else we had still refused to taste,And perished in our sin.Pity the nations, O our God,Constrain the earth to come;Send Thy victorious Word abroad,And bring the strangers home.We long to see Thy churches full,That all the chosen raceMay, with one voice and heart and soul,Sing Thy redeeming grace.
