Beauty for Ashes
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Prayer will be held at the Burke home.
This week, our text, is Isaiah 4:2-6 where we encounter the first occasion of the term “branch” in scripture. This Introduces us to us to some of the most beautiful imagery of the works of our Lord Jesus Christ, and his effect on His people.
Call for prayer: here is a note from Erik Jackson, “a friend of ours from our old church in Suffolk, and father to 7, Larry Tate, died from a sudden heart attack. There was no history of any problems and this was completely unexpected. We are asking for prayer for his family.” Eric
The songs are as follows:
Come Thou Almighty King
In Christ Alone
Psalm 87
Come, Holy Spirit, Come
Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken
Come Thou Almighty King
Come Thou Almighty King
Help us Thy name to sing;
Help us to praise.
Father, all glorious, o’er all victorious,
Come, and reign over us,
Ancient of Days
Come, Thou Incarnate Word
Gird on Thy mighty sword
Our prayer attend.
Come, and Thy people bless
And give Thy word success
Spirit of holiness
On us descend.
Come Holy Comforter
Thy sacred witness bear
In this glad hour
Thou, who almighty art
Now rule in every heart
And ne’er from us depart
Spirit of pow’r
To Thee, great One in Three
Eternal praises be,
Hence evermore;
Thy sov’reign majesty
May we in glory see
And to eternity
Love and adore
In Christ Alone
In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid Ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand
In Christ alone! – who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe!
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
Till on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live
There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again!
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ
No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life’s first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand!
Psalm 87 – (from The Book of Psalms for Singing)
Upon the holy hills the Lord
Has His foundation laid;
He loves the gates of Zion more
Than dwellings Jacob made.
O city of our God, there are
Things glorious said of Thee.
I’ll mention Egypt, Babylon,
Among those knowing me.
Include the land of Palestine;
Let Tyre the survey share,
With distant Ethiopia:
“This is a man born there!”
And so of Zion it is said,
“Each one was born in her;”
And He that is Himself Most High,
He has established her.
The Lord, when listing people, notes,
“This is a man born there!”
And singers with their minstrels say,
“Our fountains in thee are.”
Come, Holy Spirit, Come
Come, Holy Spirit, come;
Let thy bright beams arise;
Dispel the darkness from our minds,
And open all our eyes.
Cheer our desponding hearts,
Thou heav’nly Paraclete;
Give us to lie with humble hope
At our Redeemer’s feet.
Revive our drooping faith;
Our doubts and fears remove;
And kindle in our breasts the flames
Of never-dying love.
Convince us of our sin;
Then lead to Jesus’ blood,
And to our wond’ring view, reveal
The secret love of God.
‘Tis thine to cleanse the heart,
To sanctify the soul,
To pour fresh life in ev’ry part,
And new create the whole.
Dwell, therefore, in our hearts;
Our minds from bondage free;
Then we shall know and praise and love
The Father, Son, and Thee.
Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken
Glorious things of thee are spoken,
Zion, city of our God;
He, Whose Word cannot be broken
Formed thee for His own abode:
On the Rock of Ages founded,
What can shake thy sure repose?
With salvation’s walls surrounded,
Thou may’st smile at all thy foes.
See, the streams of living waters,
Springing from eternal love,
Well supply thy sons and daughters,
And all fear of want remove:
Who can faint, while such a river
Ever flows their thirst t’assuage?
Grace which, like the Lord, the Giver,
Never fails from age to age.
Round each habitation hovering,
See the cloud and fire appear
For a glory and a cov’ring,
Showing that the Lord is near:
Thus deriving from their banner
Light by night and shade by day,
Safe they feed upon the manna
Which He gives them when they pray.
Savior, if of Zion’s city
I, through grace, a member am,
Let the world deride or pity,
I will glory in Thy Name:
Fading is the worldling’s pleasure,
All his boasted pomp and show;
Solid joys and lasting treasure
None but Zion’s children know.
