This Week at Hope – On The Highway to Heavenly Rest
Dear Brothers and Sisters, Prayer will be held at the Browns Barn.
Please remember to pray for Petra. She returned home this afternoon. If you would like to help the Churchill family, please contact Meghan Sides.
Where is the world going? What is the hope for the church? Is there any hope at all for this world? When you look around at the apostasy and godlessness, how could you be optimistic? Our scripture focus this coming Sunday is Isaiah 11:10-16, and it answers all these questions with clarity. First, notice that It is a two part poem. Verse 10 is the link between the first part of the poem and the second part. Second, notice the main thrust of the content. While the first part of the poem was focused on the Messiah and His glory, while the second part reveals His global plans for sinners. These verses also cause us to consider the three major eschatological views which help us sort our the timing of these events : 1. Pre millennial 2. Amillinial 3. Post millennial.
This poem exposes the sweep of history and the wonderful things the Messiah has planned. This is communicated through some of the most wonderful imagery:
He nourishes through Christ, the life giving “root.”
He holds up a “banner” to lead and center their attention.
He prepares a glorious “resting place.”
He waves His “hand” to “recover the remnant.”
He will “assemble the outcasts.”
He will evaporate the “envy” which destroys.
He will unify His people and they will serve in unity to “plunder” their enemies.
He will cause miracles to occur to save them from bondage and speed them on their way as He did with the children of Israel in Egypt.
Finally, He will make a “highway” for His remnant.
Who is He speaking of? YOU! He will deliver you and cause your eyes to look to the banner, to cleans your heart from hatred of your brother, and He will raise His mighty hand like He did to rescue His people from the bondage and abuse of the devil.
Notice also that this section, ends with a song in chapter 12. After Isaiah explains the work and life of the Messiah and the expansion of His kingdom, He breaks out in a song of praise.
