This Week at Hope
Dear Brothers and Sisters, Prayer will be held at the Burke Home.
We will exalt the Lord, giving thanks for all things, to come with contrite hearts, to cry out to God bringing our requests to Him and drawing near to Him.
On Sunday we will be hearing a message on Isaiah 2:1-9. Chapter two marks the second sermon of Isaiah in the prophesy. This sermon spans chapters 2-4. As you read this together in your household, notice how the beginning of chapter 2 is very much like the end of chapter 4, where we find Isaiah first casting a vision of the salvation of the nations, in the period of the gospel dispensation. It is such a beautiful picture of salvation and the affections of the heart toward the Lord that are generated as a result of regeneration, “And all nations shall flow to it. Many people shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord.” Also pay careful attention to who is being spoken to… it changes and is one of the keys to understanding the prophesy.
Hymn sing, and learning to sing parts at the Damings. Several families have expressed an interest in learning to sing hymns in parts. To this end our family is interested in hosting a monthly hymn sing, most likely on Friday nights.
On Friday, September 30th, anyone who is interested is welcome to come to our house at 7 pm. We’ll be doing a few warm-up vocal drills, learning a couple rounds, and each meeting we’ll practice one hymn in four parts. After that we’ll open it up to requests like a normal hymn sing. Below we’ll include instructions on how to prepare for those who plan to come.”Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands! Serve the Lord with gladness;
Come before His presence with singing.” Psalm 100:1-2
“For myself, I confess that harmony and melody are the pleasure and elevation of my soul, and I have made a Psalm of Praise in the Holy Assembly the chief delightful exercise of my religion and my life.”
– Richard Baxter, 1681
The songs for Sunday are as follows:
Emmanuel’s Land
The sands of time are sinking,
The dawn of heaven breaks,
The summer morn I’ve sighed for,
The fair sweet morn awakes;
Dark, dark, hath been the midnight,
But dayspring is at hand,
And glory, glory dwelleth
In Emmanuel’s land.
The King there in his beauty
Without a veil is seen;
It were a well-spent journey
Though seven deaths lay between:
The Lamb with his fair army
Doth on Mount Zion stand,
And glory, glory dwelleth
In Emmanuel’s land.
O Christ, he is the fountain,
The deep sweet well of love!
The streams on earth I’ve tasted
More deep I’ll drink above:
There to an ocean fullness
His mercy doth expand,
And glory, glory dwelleth
In Emmanuel’s land.
The bride eyes not her garment,
But her dear bridegroom’s face;
I will not gaze at glory,
But on my King of grace;
Not at the crown he gifteth,
But on his pierced hand:
The Lamb is all the glory
Of Emmanuel’s land.
This Is My Father’s World #143
This is my Father’s world, and to my list’ning ears
All nature sings, and round me rings
The music of the spheres
This is my Father’s world, I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas
His hand the wonders wrought
This is my Father’s world, the birds their carols raise
The morning light, the lily white
Declare their Maker’s praise
This is my Father’s world, He shines in all that’s fair
In the rustling grass I hear Him pass, He speaks to me everywhere
This is my Father’s world, O let me ne’er forget
That though the wrong seems oft so strong
God is the Ruler yet
This is my Father’s world, the battle is not done
Jesus, who died, shall be satisfied
And earth and heav’n be one
Joyful, Joyful #90
Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee
God of glory, Lord of love
Hearts unfold like flow’rs before Thee
Opening to the sun above
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness
Drive the dark of doubt away
Giver of immortal gladness
Fill us with the light of day
All Thy works with joy surround Thee
Earth and heav’n reflect Thy rays
Stars and angels sing around Thee
Center of unbroken praise
Field and forest, vale and mountain
Flowery meadow, flashing sea
Chanting bird and flowing fountain
Call us to rejoice in Thee!
Thou art giving and forgiving
Ever blessing, ever blest
Wellspring of the joy of living
Ocean depth of happy rest!
Thou our Father, Christ our Brother
All who live in love are Thine
Teach us how to love each other
Lift us to the joy divine!
Mortals join the mighty chorus
Which the morning stars began
Love divine is reigning o’er us
Leading us with mercy’s hand
Ever singing, march we onward
Victors in the midst of strife
Joyful music leads us sunward
In the triumph song of life
Show Us Christ
Prepare our hearts, O God
Help us to receive
Break the hard and stony ground
Help our unbelief
Plant Your Word down deep in us
Cause it to bear fruit
Open up our ears to hear
Lead us in Your truth
Show us Christ, show us Christ
O God, reveal Your glory
Through the preaching of Your Word
Until every heart confesses Christ is Lord
Your Word is living light
Upon our darkened eyes
Guards us through temptations
Makes the simple wise
Your Word is food for famished ones
Freedom for the slave
Riches for the needy soul
Come speak to us today
Show us Christ, show us Christ
O God, reveal Your glory
Through the preaching of Your Word
Until every heart confesses Christ is Lord
I’ll Fly Away #779
Some glad morning when this life is o’er
I’ll fly away
To a home on God’s celestial shore
I’ll fly away
I’ll fly away, O glory, I’ll fly away
When I die, hallelujah, by and by, I’ll fly away
When the shadows of this life have gone
I’ll fly away
Like a bird from prison bars has flown
I’ll fly away
I’ll fly away, O glory, I’ll fly away
When I die, hallelujah, by and by, I’ll fly away
Just a few more weary days and then
I’ll fly away
To a land where joys shall never end
I’ll fly away
I’ll fly away, O glory, I’ll fly away
When I die, hallelujah, by and by, I’ll fly away
