This Week at Hope
Dear Brothers and Sisters, Prayer will be held at the Brown Home.
Special thanks for those who are doing sermon research for me, Tyler Hutchinson, Anthony Sollik, Abraham Espinoza, Isaac and Micah Burke, Christian DiLorenzo, Isaiah Hillman, and the one coordinating it all, Ken Puckett.
Our text this week is Isaiah 21:1-10, where Isaiah depicts the coming judgment of Babylon by the Medo Persian empire. Babylon, high and lifted up and self confident does not know that their empire will fall like a house of cards on a whirlwind, fulfilling the prophesy, “Babylon is fallen, is fallen.” The heart of the matter is this: God will bring a whirlwind that will distress, astound, disorient and dismay all who look on, but God has His purposes in it. He will use it, as He uses all things, for the benefit of His church. Even this violent and mind numbing situation will turn out for the threshing of the grain – the sanctification and separation of His people Israel. The chapter begins with a whirlwind in verse 1, and ends on a threshing floor where the winds of sanctification and separation are blowing. Salvation is of the Lord, and He uses many means to secure it.
The songs are as follows:
Holy, Holy, Holy! #3
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee
Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!
Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore Thee
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea
Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee
Which wert, and art, and evermore shalt be
Holy, holy, holy! Tho’ the darkness hide Thee
Tho’ the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see
Only Thou art holy – there is none beside Thee
Perfect in pow’r, in love, in purity
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy name in earth, and sky, and sea
Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity
How Deep the Father’s Love For Us
How deep the Father’s love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure
How great the pain of searing loss
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory
Behold the man upon a cross
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished
I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no pow’r, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection
Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom
Come, All Ye Pining
Lord we adore thy boundless grace.
The heights and depths unknown,
Of pardon, life, and joy, and peace,
In thy beloved Son.
Come, all ye pining, hungry poor,
The Savior’s bounty taste;
Behold a never-failing store
For ev’ry willing guest.
O wondrous gifts of love divine,
Dear Source of ev’ry good;
Jesus, in thee what glories shine!
How rich thy flowing blood!
Come, all ye pining, hungry poor,
The Savior’s bounty taste;
Behold a never-failing store
For ev’ry willing guest.
Here shall your num’rous wants receive
A free, a full supply;
He has unmeasured bliss to give,
And joys that never die.
Come, all ye pining, hungry poor,
The Savior’s bounty taste;
Behold a never-failing store
For ev’ry willing guest.
O Great God
O great God of highest heaven
Occupy my lowly heart
Own it all and reign supreme
Conquer every rebel power
Let no vice or sin remain
That resists Your holy war
You have loved and purchased me
Make me Yours forevermore
I was blinded by my sin
Had no ears to hear Your voice
Did not know Your love within
Had no taste for heaven’s joys
Then Your Spirit gave me life
Opened up Your Word to me
Through the gospel of Your Son
Gave me endless hope and peace
Help me now to live a life
That’s dependent on Your grace
Keep my heart and guard my soul
From the evils that I face
You are worthy to be praised
With my every thought and deed
O great God of highest heaven
Glorify Your Name through me
I Sing the Mighty Power of God #128
I sing the mighty pow’r of God that made the mountains rise
That spread the flowing seas abroad and built the lofty skies
I sing the wisdom that ordained the sun to rule the day
The moon shines full at His command and all the stars obey
I sing the goodness of the Lord that filled the earth with food
He formed the creatures with His word and then pronounced them good
Lord, how Thy wonders are displayed wher-e’er I turn my eye
If I survey the ground I tread or gaze upon the sky
There’s not a plant or flow’r below but makes Thy glories known
And clouds arise and tempests blow by order from Thy throne
While all that borrows life from Thee is ever in Thy care
And everywhere that man can be, Thou, God, art present there
