This Week at Hope – Cleansed of Everything Pagan, Part 2
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Prayer will be held at the Burke Home.
The Christian life is a cleansing life… Through the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, He is destroying the works of the devil. It is a cleansing work. However, the people of God often slip back into the pagan ways they once renounced. As we turn our attention to Nehemiah 13:15-22 this week, we see Nehemiah confronting the nobles and the people for doing business on the Sabbath… something they previously took an oath against. How did this happen? Nehemiah has been absent for several years in Babylon. He has now returned to Jerusalem only to find that the people have slipped in three areas. First, they have compromised their worship by allowing Tobiah, the enemy of God to take up residence in the temple (13:1014). Second, they are breaking the Sabbath (13:15-22). Third they have entered into unlawful marriages with pagans. Nehemiah, having observed these lapses, has turned his attention to cleansing Judah “of everything pagan.”

- Rise Up, O Church of God
All Creatures of Our God and King
All creatures of our God and King
Lift up your voice and with us sing
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Thou burning sun with golden beam
Thou silver moon with softer gleam
O praise Him! O praise Him!
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
And all ye men of tender heart
Forgiving others, take your part
O sing ye! Alleluia!
Ye who long pain and sorrow bear
Praise God and on Him cast your care
O praise Him! O praise Him!
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
Let all things their Creator bless
And worship Him in humbleness
O praise Him! Alleluia!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son
And praise the Spirit, Three in One
O praise Him! O praise Him!
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
This Is the Day the Lord Hath Made
(tune: Am I a Soldier of the Cross)
This is the day the Lord hath made;
He calls the hours His own;
Let heav’n rejoice, let earth be glad,
And praise surround the throne.
Today He rose and left the dead,
And Satan’s empire fell;
Today the saints His triumphs spread,
And all His wonders tell.
Hosanna to th’anointed King,
To David’s holy Son!
Help us, O Lord; descend and bring
Salvation from the throne.
Blest be the Lord, who comes to men
With messages of grace;
Who comes in God his Father’s Name
To save our sinful race.
Hosanna in the highest strains
The church on earth can raise!
The highest heav’ns in which He reigns
Shall give Him nobler praise.
Take My Life and Let It Be
Take my life and let it be
Consecrated Lord to Thee
Take my moments and my days
Let them flow in ceaseless praise
Let them flow in ceaseless praise
Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee
Swift and beautiful for Thee
Take my voice and let me sing
Always, only, for my King
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee
Filled with messages from Thee
Take my silver and my gold
Not a mite would I withhold
Take my intellect and use
Every power as Thou shalt choose
Every power as Thou shalt choose
Take my love, my Lord I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store
Take my self and I will be
Ever only all for Thee
Ever only all for Thee
Take my will and make it Thine
It shall be no longer mine
Take my heart it is Thine own
It shall be Thy royal throne
It shall be Thy royal throne
Reformation Hymn
We will trust God’s Word alone,
Where His perfect will is known;
Our traditions shift like sand
While His Truth forever stands.
We will live by faith alone,
Clothed in merit not our own;
All we claim is Jesus Christ
And His finished sacrifice.
Glory be, glory be to God alone
Through the church He redeemed
and made His own.
He has freed us, He will keep us
till we’re safely home
Glory be, glory be to God alone!
We are saved by grace alone –
Undeserved, yet freely shown;
No accomplishment on earth
Can achieve the second birth.
We will stand on Christ alone,
The unyielding Cornerstone;
Nations rage and devils roar,
Still He reigns forevermore!
Glory be, glory be to God alone
Through the church He redeemed
and made His own.
He has freed us, He will keep us
till we’re safely home
Glory be, glory be to God alone!
Rise Up, O Church of God
Rise up, O Church of God!
Have done with lesser things
Give heart and mind and soul and strength
To serve the King of kings
Rise up, O Church of God!
His kingdom tarries long
Bring in the day of brotherhood
And end the night of wrong
Rise up, O sons of God!
The Church for you doth wait
Her strength unequal to her task
Rise up, and make her great!
Lift high the cross of Christ!
Tread where His feet have trod
As followers of the Son of Man
Rise up, O Church of God!
