This Week at Hope – Do you Hate Your Brother?
Dear Brothers and Sisters
This week prayer will be held at the Burke home.
As we continue our studies in 1 John, we notice that John continues to elaborate on what it means to have fellowship with God. In our text for this week, we learn that walking in the light of love proves your sonship, but walking in the darkness of hatred proves that you have no fellowship with God – you are not saved (1 John 2:9-11). The Bible makes it very clear that the whole of Christianity is summed up in one four letter word – love. The proof of Christianity is that our hatred is diminishing and our love is shining brighter and brighter. But what is love? What is hatred? These things we must know in order to properly diagnose the condition of our souls.
In preparation for Memorial Day… All Hands on Deck for Tent Set Up Tonight – we need men to pound in stakes… Tuesday starting at 5:15. We need you to bring your sledge hammers to pound in the stakes if you are able…
Also, remember that Sunday night we will begin our series on “Early Piety.” We pray the whole church will come out to walk through it… we will especially have our eye on the youth as we explain the chapters in the book. You can get your free copy of the book at Wednesday Night prayer at the Burkes.
Please pray for Noel tonight at Brookdale tonight – Tuesday, as he preaches from 1 John 4:7-9, “beloved, let us love one another for love is of God…”
The songs for Sunday are,
- I Sing the Mighty Power of God
- Let It Be Said of Us
- Rejoice in the Lord
- Dear Refuge of My Weary Soul
- Rise Up, O Church of God
I Sing the Mighty Power of God
I sing the mighty pow’r of God
that made the mountains rise
That spread the flowing seas abroad
and built the lofty skies
I sing the wisdom that ordained
the sun to rule the day
The moon shines full at His command
and all the stars obey
I sing the goodness of the Lord
that filled the earth with food
He formed the creatures with His word
and then pronounced them good
Lord, how Thy wonders are displayed
wher-e’er I turn my eye
If I survey the ground I tread
or gaze upon the sky
There’s not a plant or flow’r below
but makes Thy glories known
And clouds arise and tempests blow
by order from Thy throne
While all that borrows life from Thee
is ever in Thy care
And everywhere that man can be,
Thou, God, art present there
Amen
Let It Be Said of Us
Let it be said of us that the Lord
was our passion
That with gladness we bore
every cross we were given
That we fought the good fight
That we finished the course
Knowing within us the pow’r
of the risen Lord
Let the cross be our glory
and the Lord be our song
By mercy made holy,
by the Spirit made strong
Let the cross be our glory
and the Lord be our song
Till the likeness of Jesus
be through us made known
Let the cross be our glory
and the Lord be our song
Let it be said of us we were
marked by forgiveness
We were known by our love
and delighted in meekness
We were ruled by His peace,
heeding unity’s call
Joined as one body that Christ
would be seen by all
Rejoice in the Lord
God never moves without purpose or plan
When trying His servant and molding a man.
Give thanks to the LORD though your testing seems long;
In darkness He giveth a song.
O Rejoice in the LORD; He makes no mistake,
He knoweth the end of each path that I take,
For when I am tried and purified,
I shall come forth as gold.
I could not see through the shadows ahead;
So I looked at the cross of my Savior instead.
I bowed to the will of the Master that day;
Then peace came and tears fled away.
Now I can see testing comes from above;
God strengthens His children and purges in love.
My Father knows best, and I trust in His care;
Through purging more fruit I will bear.
Dear Refuge of My Weary Soul
Dear refuge of my weary soul, on Thee, when sorrows rise,
On Thee, when waves of trouble roll, my fainting hope relies.
To Thee I tell each rising grief, for Thou alone canst heal;
Thy Word can bring a sweet relief for every pain I feel.
But oh! When gloomy doubts prevail, I fear to call Thee mine;
The springs of comfort seem to fail, and all my hopes decline.
Yet gracious God, where shall I flee? Thou art my only trust;
And still my soul would cleave to Thee, though prostrate in the dust.
Hast Thou not bid me seek Thy face, and shall I seek in vain?
And can the ear of sov’reign grace be deaf when I complain?
No, still the ear of sov’reign grace attends the mourner’s prayer;
O may I ever find access to breathe my sorrows there.
Thy mercy seat is open still, here let my soul retreat;
With humble hope attend Thy will, and wait beneath Thy feet.
Thy mercy seat is open still, here let my soul retreat;
With humble hope attend Thy will, and wait beneath Thy feet.
Rise Up, O Church of God
Rise up, O Church of God!
Have done with lesser things
Give heart and mind and soul and strength
To serve the King of kings
Rise up, O Church of God!
His kingdom tarries long
Bring in the day of brotherhood
And end the night of wrong
Rise up, O sons of God!
The Church for you doth wait
Her strength unequal to her task
Rise up, and make her great!
Lift high the cross of Christ!
Tread where His feet have trod
As followers of the Son of Man
Rise up, O Church of God!
