This Week at Hope: The Church of Sardis – What’s in a Name?
Dear brothers & sisters,
This Sunday, we are back in the book of Revelation, examining the letter written to the church of Sardis (Rev 3:1-6). Here was a congregation that had cultivated a name and reputation that far outstripped the reality of who they really were: “you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead.” A dead church is a contradiction in terms because of who Christ – the head of the Church – actually is. But the Good Shepherd is on a salvaging mission, seeking to awaken them to their true condition so that they might repent.
Praise be to God that “even in Sardis” there are true believers, a small band of faithful followers, who had a name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life! This is the name that matters. He encourages them, and reminds them of the wonderful promises He has on offer to those who overcome. He ends His address with those familiar words: “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
Prayer will be at the Noahs’ home.
On Sunday afternoon, we continue our study on the Attributes of God, with our brother Al Burke speaking on the Omniscience of God.
Here are our songs for this coming Sunday:
Wondrous King, All Glorious
Day of Judgment, Day of Wonder
Dear Refuge of My Weary Soul
He Will Hold Me Fast
It Is Well with My Soul
Day of Judgment, Day of Wonder
Dear Refuge of My Weary Soul
He Will Hold Me Fast
It Is Well with My Soul
May we come ready to worship Him. Have a wonderful rest of the week.
