This Week at Hope – Your Face Shall Not Grow Pale
Dear Brothers and Sisters, Prayer will be held at the Daming home.
This week our focus of study is Isaiah 29:15-24 which brings us to a disclosure of the power of the Spirit of God through the spread of the Gospel. How can the impulse for autonomy be broken in man? Is it even possible to unravel the unbelieving proud spirit that says, “I’ll do what I want to do; I can do whatever I please; there is no God; there is no authority but me…” This is what man says in his desperate futile attempt to escape the watchful eye of God. This is how he thinks when he has inebriated himself to the reality of God’s impending wrath. As we encounter the third “woe” of Isaiah 28-33, we find ourselves observing the crossfire of man’s desire for invisibility before God, and God’s sovereign watchful eye. Isaiah says, “Woe to those who seek deep to hide their counsel far from the Lord, And their works are in the dark; They say, “Who sees us?” and, “Who knows us?” v15
Yet, God has provided His mercy for this destructive impulse in man. He knows our frame and He works a miracle by the outpouring is His Spirit – the unfruitful life becomes fruitful, the deaf hear, the blind see, the humble rejoice. And, “your face will not grow pale,” growing stronger and stronger.
In Isaiah 29:15-24 we learn that there will be:
1. Woe for the autonomous, v15-16
2. Increase for the humble, v17-19
3. Destruction for the terrible, v20-2
4. No shame for house of Jacob (the church), v22-24
The songs we will be singing are these:
All Creatures of Our God and King #63
All creatures of our God and King
Lift up your voice and with us sing
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Thou burning sun with golden beam
Thou silver moon with softer gleam
O praise Him! O praise Him!
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
And all ye men of tender heart
Forgiving others, take your part
O sing ye! Alleluia!
Ye who long pain and sorrow bear
Praise God and on Him cast your care
O praise Him! O praise Him!
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
Let all things their Creator bless
And worship Him in humbleness
O praise Him! Alleluia!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son
And praise the Spirit, Three in One
O praise Him! O praise Him!
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
Psalm 62
My soul in silence waits for God,
My Saviour he has proved;
He only is my Rock and Tow’r;
I never shall be moved.
My honor is secure with God,
My Saviour he is known;
My Refuge and my Rock of strength
Are found in God alone.
On him, ye people, evermore
Rely with confidence;
Before him pour ye out your heart,
For God is our defense.
For God has spoken o’er and o’er,
And unto me has shown,
That saving pow’r and lasting strength
Belong to him alone.
Yea, lovingkindness evermore
Belongs to thee, O Lord;
And thou according to his work
Dost ev’ry man reward.
Have Thine Own Way #591
Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Thou art the Potter; I am the clay
Mold me and make me after Thy will
While I am waiting, yielded and still
Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Search me and try me, Master, today
Whiter than snow, Lord, wash me just now
As in Thy presence, humbly I bow
Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Wounded and weary, help me, I pray
Power – all power – surely is Thine!
Touch me and heal me, Savior divine!
Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Hold o’er my being absolute sway!
Fill with Thy Spirit till all shall see
Christ only, always living in me!
Come, All Ye Pining
Lord we adore thy boundless grace.
The heights and depths unknown,
Of pardon, life, and joy, and peace,
In thy beloved Son.
Come, all ye pining, hungry poor,
The Savior’s bounty taste;
Behold a never-failing store
For ev’ry willing guest.
O wondrous gifts of love divine,
Dear Source of ev’ry good;
Jesus, in thee what glories shine!
How rich thy flowing blood!
Come, all ye pining, hungry poor,
The Savior’s bounty taste;
Behold a never-failing store
For ev’ry willing guest.
Here shall your num’rous wants receive
A free, a full supply;
He has unmeasured bliss to give,
And joys that never die.
Come, all ye pining, hungry poor,
The Savior’s bounty taste;
Behold a never-failing store
For ev’ry willing guest.
How Deep the Father’s Love For Us
How deep the Father’s love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure
How great the pain of searing loss
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory
Behold the man upon a cross
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished
I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no pow’r, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection
Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom
