This Week at Hope – The Sheep Hear His Voice
Brothers and Sisters,
In John 10:1-11, Jesus proclaims Himself as the good shepherd. This beautiful word picture is one of the most beloved illustrations of the superiority of Jesus. Notice also that two of the seven “I Am” statements are in our text: “I am the Door,” and “I am the good shepherd.” John 10:1, is a continuation of what happened after the blind man is healed. It is one single scene for there is no break between chapters 9 and 10. In chapter 9, a blind man receives sight. Immediately Jesus turns and explains that he is the good shepherd. Jesus is explaining another layer of what it means for the blind to see. But he adds another matter – hearing – “the sheep hear His voice,” and
“He calls His own” (v3). But the heart of this section is that Jesus is calling His flock out of a corrupt religious system. He calls them by name.
Prayer will be held at the Noah’s. Here is an article giving ideas about how to make the prayer meeting most meaningful to your children, Six ways to Help Children in your Corporate Prayer Meetings.”

- The Suffering Servant
Jesus, Where’er Thy People Meet
Jesus, where’er thy people meet,
There they behold thy mercy-seat;
Where’er they seek thee, thou art found,
And ev’ry place is hallowed ground.
For thou, within no walls confined,
Inhabitest the humble mind;
Such ever bring thee where they come,
And going, take thee to their home.
Dear Shepherd of thy chosen few,
Thy former mercies here renew;
Here to our waiting hearts proclaim
The sweetness of thy saving Name.
Here may we prove the pow’r of prayer
To strengthen faith and sweeten care,
To teach our faint desires to rise,
And bring all heav’n before our eyes.
Lord, we are few, but thou art near;
Nor short thine arm, nor deaf thine ear;
O rend the heav’ns, come quickly down,
And make a thousand hearts thine own.
Psalm 23
The Lord’s my Shepherd, I’ll not want;
He makes me down to lie
In pastures green; He leadeth me
The quiet waters by.
He makes me down to lie
In pastures green; He leadeth me
The quiet waters by.
My soul He doth restore again;
And me to walk doth make
Within the paths of righteousness,
E’en for His own name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk in death’s dark vale,
Yet will I fear none ill,
For Thou art with me; and Thy rod
And staff me comfort still.
My table Thou hast furnished
In presence of my foes;
My head Thou dost with oil anoint,
And my cup overflows.
Goodness and mercy all my life
Shall surely follow me:
And in God’s house for evermore
My dwelling place shall be.
Savior Like a Shepherd Lead Us
Savior, like a shepherd lead us,
Much We need Thy tender care
In Thy pleasant pastures feed us
For our use Thy folds prepare
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus
Thou Hast bought us, Thine we are
Blessed Jesus, Blessed Jesus
Thou hast bought us, Thine we are
We are Thine, do Thou befriend us
Be the Guardian of our way
Keep Thy flock, from sin defend us
Seek us when we go astray
Blessed Jesus, Blessed Jesus
Hear, O hear us when we pray
Blessed Jesus, Blessed Jesus
Hear, O hear us when we pray
Thou Hast Promised to receive us
Poor and sinful tho’ we be
Thou hast mercy to relieve us
Grace to cleanse and pow’r to free
Blessed Jesus, Blessed Jesus
Early let us turn to Thee
Blessed Jesus, Blessed Jesus
Early let us turn to Thee
Early let us seek Thy favor
Early let us do Thy will
Blessed Lord and only Savior
With Thy love our beings fill
Blessed Jesus, Blessed Jesus
Thou hast love us, love us still
Blessed Jesus, Blessed Jesus
Thou hast loved us, love us still
By Grace Alone
Out of the depths I cry to You,
Lord, hear my voice of pleading;
Bend down Your gracious ear, I pray,
Your humble servant heeding.
If You remember each misdeed,
And of each thought and word take heed,
Who can remain before You?
Only by grace, by grace alone.
Your pardon is a gift of love,
Your grace alone must save us,
Our works will not remove our guilt,
The strictest life would fail us.
Let none in deeds or merits boast,
But let us own the Holy Ghost
For He alone can change us:
Only by grace, by grace alone.
Though great our sins and sore our woes
His grace much more aboundeth;
His helping love no limit knows,
Our utmost need it soundeth.
Our kind and faithful Shepherd He,
Who will set all His people free
From all their sin and sorrow:
Only by grace, by grace alone.
The Suffering Servant
Who is this God did forsake;
Who Himself our griefs did take?
Stricken, smitten by His God;
Our transgressions brought the rod?
The Great I Am Whom we call Saviour,
Mighty God, and Prince of Peace;
The Righteous Servant of Jehovah;
Jesus Christ, our Great High Priest.
As a Father to His children
Everlasting He will be.
Our Counselor, Most Wonderful,
Immanuel, ’tis He.
Who is this for us now bruised;
Oppressed, afflicted, and abused?
Like a lamb to slaughter led;
All of our sins placed on His head?
Who is this Whose stripes can heal,
Justify, and pardon seal?
Poured His soul out unto death;
And bore our sin ’til His last breath?
Who is this from Whom we strayed;
Everyone to his own way?
And from Him we hid our face;
Condemned He stood to take our place.
Who is this Who intercedes;
Poor lost sheep, their case He pleads?
All our sin on Him was laid.
He bore God’s wrath; the debt’s been paid.
