This Week at Hope – When We Reach the End of Wisdom’s Tether
Brothers and sisters,
Our text for Sunday will be Ecclesiastes 8. Just as in the previous chapter, Solomon here in chapter 8 continues to encourage sound wisdom for everyday living, but he also continues to show the limitations of whatever wisdom we are able to acquire and apply. This theme is highlighted by the bookends of this chapter which declare, “Who is like a wise man?” in verse 1 and then, “though a wise man attempts to know the work that is done under the sun, he will not be able to find it.” We will see here wisdom’s observations and her applications but will also note her limitations. We will look
- Wisdom in the Presence of a Mighty King
- Wisdom in the Preparation for Certain Death
- Wisdom in the Perception of the Work of God
I hope each one of you is laboring with us in prayer as we work our way through our prayer guides this week. As part of our Prayer Week, we have set aside Wednesday as a day of fasting. We will gather together at the church building at 6:00 pm to break the fast with a meal being provided by the church. After dinner, we will remain at the church building for our weekly time of prayer.
Please pray for Paul Carrington, Michael Templeton, and Jason Dohm as they travel to Colorado this weekend to bring the ‘Hold the Rope’ vision to Kevin Swanson’s congregation on Sunday. Please also pray for Scott as he ministers at Sovereign Redeemer Community Church on Sunday.
The Sunday afternoon teaching will be handled by Josh Keith. He will continue our study of the attributes of God by teaching on The Faithfulness of God.
Our songs for Sunday are:
- Crown Him with Many Crowns
- Be Thou My Vision
- Complete in Thee
- Ancient Words
- Fairest Lord Jesus
