This Week at Hope – When Beauty Dies in Women
Dear Brothers and Sisters, Prayer will be held at the Brown home.
Our scripture study leads us to Isaiah 3:16-4:1 what happens when “the daughters of Zion are haughty.” It is a case study for how sin destroys beauty in woman. In the previous section the men are passive, and irrelevant, and even effeminate. They do not change the world, but rather they are being changed by every turn of culture. But the daughters of Zion are turning to a different form of vanity and uselessness. The great impulse of their irrelevancy is the pride in their hearts that drives them to focus on their outward appearance. While this is a tragic situation for women, it is also tragic when the church, the bride of Christ is proud and in search of affirmation. Notice the six parts of this passage:
I. The root of the problem is stated, v16=
II. Haughtiness defined, v16
III. The judgment of God against the haughtiness of women, v17-24
IV. The men will be killed, v25
V. The women are desolate, v26
VI. Women are desperate for men, 4:1

A Broken Spirit
This Is My Father’s World #143
Let It Be Said of Us
Let it be said of us that the Lord was our passion
That with gladness we bore every cross we were given
That we fought the good fight
That we finished the course
Knowing within us the pow’r of the risen Lord
Let the cross be our glory and the Lord be our song
By mercy made holy, by the Spirit made strong
Let the cross be our glory and the Lord be our song
Till the likeness of Jesus be through us made known
Let the cross be our glory and the Lord be our song
Let it be said of us we were marked by forgiveness
We were known by our love and delighted in meekness
We were ruled by His peace, heeding unity’s call
Joined as one body that Christ would be seen by all
Let the cross be our glory and the Lord be our song
By mercy made holy, by the Spirit made strong
Let the cross be our glory and the Lord be our song
Till the likeness of Jesus be through us made known
Let the cross be our glory and the Lord be our song
Not What My Hands Have Done
Not what my hands have done can save my guilty soul;
Not what my toiling flesh has borne can make my spirit whole.
Not what I feel or do can give me peace with God;
Not all my prayers and sighs and tears can bear my awful load.
Your voice alone, O Lord, can speak to me of grace;
Your power alone, O Son of God, can all my sin erase.
No other work but Yours, no other blood will do;
No strength but that which is divine can bear me safely through.
Thy work alone, O Christ, can ease this weight of sin;
Thy blood alone, O Lamb of God, can give me peace within.
Thy love to me, O God, not mine, O Lord, to Thee,
Can rid me of this dark unrest, and set my spirit free.
I bless the Christ of God; I rest on love divine;
And with unfaltering lip and heart I call this Savior mine.
His cross dispels each doubt; I bury in His tomb
Each thought of unbelief and fear, each lingering shade of gloom.
I praise the God of grace; I trust His truth and might;
He calls me His, I call Him mine, My God, my joy and light.
’Tis He Who saveth me, and freely pardon gives;
I love because He loveth me, I live because He lives.
Psalm 51
God, be merciful to me,
On thy grace I rest my plea;
Plenteous in compassion thou,
Blot out my transgressions now;
Wash me, make me pure within,
Cleanse, O cleanse me from my sin.
My transgressions I confess,
Grief and guilt my soul oppress;
I have sinned against thy grace
And provoked thee to thy face;
I confess thy judgment just,
Speechless, I thy mercy trust.
I am evil, born in sin;
Thou desirest truth within.
Thou alone my Saviour art,
Teach thy wisdom to my heart;
Make me pure, thy grace bestow,
Wash me whiter than the snow.
Broken, humbled to the dust
By thy wrath and judgment just,
Let my contrite heart rejoice
And in gladness hear thy voice;
From my sins O hide thy face,
Blot them out in boundless grace.
Gracious God, my heart renew,
Make my spirit right and true;
Cast me not away from thee,
Let thy Spirit dwell in me;
Thy salvation’s joy impart,
Steadfast make my willing heart.
Sinners then shall learn from me
And return, O God, to thee;
Saviour, all my guilt remove,
And my tongue shall sing thy love;
Touch my silent lips, O Lord,
And my mouth shall praise accord.
A Broken Spirit
A broken spirit and a contrite heart
You will not despise, You will not despise
You desire truth in the inward parts
A broken spirit and a contrite heart
Lord, my heart is prone to wander
Prone to leave the God I love
Here’s my heart, Lord take and seal it
Seal it for Your courts above
This Is My Father’s World #143
This is my Father’s world, and to my list’ning ears
All nature sings, and round me rings
The music of the spheres
This is my Father’s world, I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas
His hand the wonders wrought
This is my Father’s world, the birds their carols raise
The morning light, the lily white
Declare their Maker’s praise
This is my Father’s world, He shines in all that’s fair
In the rustling grass I hear Him pass, He speaks to me everywhere
This is my Father’s world, O let me ne’er forget
That though the wrong seems oft so strong
God is the Ruler yet
This is my Father’s world, the battle is not done
Jesus, who died, shall be satisfied
And earth and heav’n be one
